Furukawa Electric and Fujitsu collaborate to develop next-generation integrated optical communication devices
2021-08-11
Furukawa Electric and Fujitsu Optical Devices (FOC) have agreed to cooperate in the development of integrated equipment for next-generation high-capacity optical communications. The two companies stated that they will use their respective advantages to develop high-capacity, compact, and low-power devices for next-generation communication networks to meet the demand for solutions in the Asian region. Its goal is to create world-class, best-performing equipment for the next-generation communication network by combining the technologies of the two companies to cope with the explosive growth of communication traffic and the need to reduce power consumption. Furukawa Electric and FOC also aim to combine the digital coherent system optical component products of the two companies in order to provide customers in the Asian region with specialized transceiver solutions, which are in great demand for such solutions. Furukawa Electric stated that this cooperation will combine Furukawa Electric’s composite optical semiconductor technology and FOC’s LN/silicon photonics technology to develop integrated devices for next-generation, high-capacity, high-performance, and compact optical communications, combining the technologies of the two companies. To create things that these components cannot achieve alone. The two companies stated that they intend to deploy these integrated devices globally for the 800 Gbps and above transceiver market.
